Our headquarters are based in Redondo Beach, with a manufacturing facility in Oakland, and cultivation facilities in Santa Cruz. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Manager will be responsible for accounting, policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP, with a focus on technical accounting, financial reporting, control implementation, as well as overseeing complex areas such as inventory and cost of good sold - areas that have significant visibility across the finance and business leadership team. The Accounting Manager will also be responsible for full oversight of the General Ledger to ensure all transactions are classified correctly with the appropriate accounting treatment, and recorded on a timely basis. This role requires strong partnership and collaboration with the VP Finance and Controller to drive accurate accounting, financial reporting, processes and internal controls. Specific responsibilities include: · Ensure that internal and external accounting and financial reporting is delivered in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable guidance. · Play a key role in the month end financial statement close process by preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting entries and account reconciliations; · Own and ensure accuracy of revenue recognition, cost of goods sold, inventory costing and valuation; · Manage Staff Accountant and Cost Accountant in their daily activities; · Perform detailed reviews of cost of goods sold and inventory accounts to ensure accurate accounting and recording. Together with the Cost Accountant and Inventory team at our manufacturing facility, investigate reporting discrepancies and anomalies, and communicate issues in a timely manner so as to have appropriate solution; · Assist VP Finance and Controller in various forecasting/budgeting activities as needed, and support planning efforts and provide decision support analysis; · Collaborate and work cross-functionally throughout the organization to ensure processes, workflows and information is updated on a timely basis to ensure accurate accounting and reporting; · Review existing processes and systems to identify improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization and operational efficiencies through automation; · Evaluate supply chain processes and ensure inventory related processes and controls are designed and functioning effectively; · Establish, implement and document new policies and procedures that ensure financial transactions are executed in accordance with GAAP principles; · Work with VP Finance and Controller to identify technical accounting issues and proactively plan for and research, so as to appropriately account for them; · Proactively work with auditors and CPA firm on technical accounting issues, year-end audits, annual vendor 1099s and annual tax returns; · Continually develop and improve month end close and financial reporting procedures and that drive the reduction of the close timeline by assessing and streamlining close-related activities; · Work closely with the VP Finance and Controller on other responsibilities including leading and management of special projects, any ERP enhancements, internal controls, and ad hoc analyses as requested. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, innovative, and startup environment. The ideal candidate will possess an impeccable attention to detail and enjoy rolling-up-their sleeves to ensure flawless oversight of accounting, controls, financial reporting and analysis related to sales, cost of good sold and inventory. The ideal candidate should also want to work in a company and industry in which their day-to-day responsibilities will have an impact on the overall operations of the company, and where daily tasks can differ greatly. Additional requirements include: · 5 - 8 years of experience in progressively larger financial leadership roles, with a mix of public accounting and industry experience preferred; · Experience with high-pace work environments; · Strong knowledge of US GAAP, including technical accounting policies, procedures and treatments. Demonstrated ability to stay current with emerging trends and relevant accounting pronouncements that impacts accounting and financial reporting; · Industry experience in retail, consumer products and/or manufacturing highly desired. Strong knowledge of inventory accounting a plus; · Highly detail oriented with a passion and curiosity to dive into problem areas in order to avoid financial surprises; · Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently and within a team environment; · Ability to work effectively with all levels of an organization; · Strong business acumen, including the ability to partner and communicate effectively with management and other business units; · Experience with systems integrations and development of automated processes; · Strong systems skills, must be comfortable analyzing and manipulating large data sets, as well as experience with ERP and reporting tools; · Ability to effectively communicate clear and concise ideas verbally and in writing; · Creative thinker who can bring innovative ideas and approaches to solve issues; · Must be willing to travel for occasional site visits at our manufacturing facility in Oakland and cultivation facilities in Santa Cruz. EDUCATION BA/BS degree in Accounting or related field required. CPA with expertise in technical accounting policies, procedures and treatments in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements is a plus.
