Mercy Medical Center, an independent community teaching hospital in Baltimore Maryland, seeks a Director of Individual Giving to lead Mercy's Individual Giving Program, which raises between $1.5 million - $2 million in annual support for Mercy (exclusive of campaign activity).

As part of a team of experienced fundraisers, the Director of Individual Giving reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and manages the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for assigned prospects with the giving ability of $10,000 and above, with a strong focus on six and seven-figure gifts. The Director of Individual Giving will supervise a team including two direct reports to enhance Mercy's Annual and Major Gift Programs, as well as Physician/Employee giving, Trustee giving, and the Clinician Engagement/Grateful Patient Fundraising Program.

Annual Giving

Through the management of the Mercy Heath Foundation's Assistant Director of Annual Giving, the Director of Individual Giving will have oversight of Mercy's annual giving efforts, including setting strategy and executing fundraising plans for sustaining and growing the number of $1-$9,999 annual donors, the size of individual donations, and the conversion of annual donors to future campaign donors.

Major Giving

The Director of Individual Giving, in conjunction with the Chief Philanthropy Officer and Director of Operations/ Administrative Director of Campaign Initiatives, develops and implements strategies to cultivate, enlist, and steward financial support from individuals at the major gift level, which includes carrying a portfolio of approximately 50-100 prospects and enlisting approximately $500,000 in support each fiscal year.

The Director of Individual Giving will supervise a Senior Development Officer who will be responsible for building and carrying a portfolio of approximately 150 prospects and closing five, six, and seven figure gifts with a special emphasis on increasing support from grateful patients. The Director of Individual Giving will also partner with the Senior Development Officer to Lead the strategic development of the Clinician Engagement/Grateful Patient Fundraising Program.

150th Anniversary Campaign

In addition, the Director of Individual Giving will play a pivotal role in Mercy's upcoming 150th anniversary campaign which will have a significant endowment and capital component. As Baltimore's only remaining independent Catholic healthcare institution, Mercy's 150th anniversary campaign will raise funds in support of clinical excellence and mission, providing the financial security needed to preserve our autonomy in the complex, ever-changing healthcare landscape. The Mercy Health Foundation, in partnership with the Mercy Health Foundation Board of Trustees and Mercy's institutional leadership, will collectively determine funding priorities and set financial goals, and currently anticipates a total campaign goal in excess of $50M. The quiet phase of the campaign will culminate with the launch of a public phase in November 2024, to coincide with Mercy's founding on November 11, 1874. We expect to conclude the public phase of this campaign by 2027/2028.

Responsibilities:

Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward private philanthropic support from individuals with a particular focus on six and seven figure gifts to meet annual goals for operations and capital, as well as support Mercy's 150th Anniversary Campaign. Serve as the primary liaison to a portfolio of assigned physicians, departments, and/or program managers. Build and nurture effective working relationships with management, department chiefs, clinicians, administrators, and volunteers to identify funding needs and to prepare the case for support. Implement a robust referral and prospect identification system, which may include techniques such as grateful patient gatherings and receptions. Develop moves management plans for prospective donors, strategies for engaging with all constituents, and a stewardship programs for Mercy's most generous and loyal benefactors. Identify funding opportunities and develop cases for support in alignment with Mercy Health Services' Strategic Plan. Observe and use established Mercy Health Foundation policies and operating procedures, including regular, timely, and accurate recording of activities and moves management in Raiser's Edge. Participate in and develop donor recognition initiatives, including special programs, and naming opportunities Maintain attention to detail as well as grasp the big picture, while advancing individual relationships along the continuum of donor activity. Develop and contribute to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Ensure compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental/accreditation regulations. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:


Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred Minimum of ten years of demonstrated success in securing philanthropic support from individuals with 5-10 years of experience in a healthcare setting Superior written and oral communication skills Experience with planned giving Knowledge of Raiser's Edge fundraising software Acumen to engage and support senior leadership, staff, and volunteers in fundraising within a complex, multi-departmental environment. A high level of professionalism, creativity, and integrity coupled with an ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of constituencies and develop relationships with key stake holders Strategic and analytic thinking, organization, and the ability to motivate and gain cooperation from a wide range of individuals Must be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive team
