The Director of Laboratory Services is responsible for all operations and business management for the Department of Pathology. This position establishes departmental goals and objectives, policies and procedures, and standards of practice in accordance with the Laboratory Medical Director and Mercy’s policies and objectives. This position leads change initiatives that align with departmental goals, assures the delivery of optimal cost effective services and quality patient care, and supports the Mercy Health System’s mission. This position assures competency of all personnel, maintains performance improvement activities, and works collaboratively with other Departments within the Mercy Health System. The Director of Laboratory Services will have a comprehensive knowledge of hospital laboratory operations in compliance with all State, Federal and Regulatory laws, standards, and protocols. This position requires a high level of leadership skills and abilities.
Bachelor Degree required. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology preferred. Master Degree is desirable. Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience, including supervisory/management experience required. Certification Requirement: American Society of Clinical Pathologists certification desirable. Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following: Microsoft Word Power Point Excel Microsoft Outlook Meditech (if applicable to position) Epic (if applicable to position) NetLearning Electronic Performance Appraisal System Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
