JOB SUMMARY: 

The Oncology Clinical Social Worker provides a wide variety of psychological and social work interventions to patients and their families. These services have been developed to remove any psychosocial barriers, which inhibit the treatment process.

Requirements

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE and REGISTRATION:

Current LCSW required from the State of Arkansas. Oncology experience preferred. Commitment to continuing professional education by maintaining CEU requirements.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Minimum two years' experience in social work with broad background with diverse patient populations, preferably in oncology or medical setting.  Knowledge of community resources and be able to identify barriers to service delivery. Knowledge of treatment plans, insurance plans, case management needs and current trends in cancer treatment. Knowledgeable about oncology disease and their treatment, psychosocial implications for individuals and their families, appropriate interventions and available community and governmental resources.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform duties permanently in Pine Bluff, AR and attend initial 6 - week training in Little Rock, AR. Occasional travel to Little Rock, AR may be required. 

Summary

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

Links patients and their families to resources and support in the community to address emotional, familial, economic, and environmental difficulties to achieve optimal clinical outcomes. Provides support services to coordinate treatment, assist in achieving the best possible functional level, maximize symptom self-management and enhance quality of life. Performs psychosocial and clinical assessments and creates appropriate interventions for patients based on the identified needs. Provides counseling services to identify problems and facilitate needed referrals. Coordinates complex services, including Home Health Care and Hospice referrals. Oral Drug Coverage Determination and Durable Medical Equipment Assistance. Documents patient/family status and history, diagnosis, treatment plan, evaluation results, observation and progress in medical records. Maintains pertinent and timely documentation in patient’s medical charts ad departmental records. Serves as facilitator of patient, family and caregiver support groups and workshops to assist in the challenges of coping with a cancer diagnosis. Participates in student and professional training and education in the area of oncology social work. Serves as a resource to other staff on community resources and in area of oncology.
